Frequently asked questions

Got questions? We're here with the answers. Check out plain and simple answers about colour analysis, finding your season, how Hueme works or how we handle your photos and information.

The basics

What is colour analysis?

Colour analysis is the art of finding the shades that genuinely suit you, the ones that make your skin glow, your eyes brighten and your whole face look more awake. It's based on your natural colouring: the undertone of your skin, and the depth and contrast of your hair and eyes. Get it right and you stop guessing in changing rooms. You just know what works.

What is Hueme colour analysis?

Hueme is colour analysis built for your phone or laptop. Answer seven quick questions about your skin, hair and eyes, add a photo for extra accuracy, and we'll place you in one of twelve colour seasons, from Bright Spring to Deep Autumn. You'll get your own personal colour palette: the exact shades that flatter you, ready to shop and wear with confidence. No £300 appointment, no waiting list. Just your colours, in minutes.

What are the 12 colour seasons?

The four classic seasons, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, each split into three, giving twelve in total. Springs are warm and clear, Summers are cool and soft, Autumns are warm and muted, and Winters are cool and bold. The twelve sub-seasons (like Bright Spring or Deep Winter) fine-tune things further, so your palette is truly yours rather than one of only four.

What is a colour season, and can mine change?

Your colour season is the family of shades that harmonises with your natural colouring. The lovely part: your underlying colouring doesn't change. Your skin's undertone is set for life, even as your hair greys or your tan fades. Find your season once and it's yours for life, although your sub-season can shift gently as we age. For example, a True Spring may soften into a Light Spring over time.

Accuracy & how it works

How accurate is AI colour analysis?

Honestly? Very good, and getting better all the time. Hueme's AI reads the same things a trained analyst looks for: undertone, contrast, depth and clarity. For most people, it lands on the right season with real confidence, instantly and consistently.

Where AI has limits is the small number of borderline cases, people who sit right on the line between two neighbouring seasons (for example, a primary Spring with a secondary Winter). That happens with in-person analysts too. For those cases, our AI Photo Analysis adds detail, and HUEME Glow lets you explore your full palette to settle it. And because colour analysis is a genuine skill, we built HUEME Pro to support trained analysts.

Does AI colour analysis really work?

Yes, especially for clear seasons, where AI is just as reliable as an online consultant, and far cheaper. The trick is a good photo: natural daylight, a bare or near-bare face, and no heavy filters. Hueme's quiz works even without a photo, using your answers about your skin, hair and eyes. For best results, add a photo and the AI fine-tunes the result.

How does the Hueme quiz work?

Seven simple questions about your natural colouring and genetics, about three minutes, no account needed. We ask how your skin reacts to the sun, your undertone, your natural hair and eye colour, and a few other gentle cues. Optionally, you add a photo so our AI can confirm your season. Then comes the best bit: your reveal, with your personal palette laid out in front of you.

Start the quiz →

Do I need to upload a photo?

Not exactly, the quiz works on your answers alone. But a photo makes it more precise, so we strongly recommend it. Our AI Photo Analysis reads your true undertone and contrast from the image, which is especially helpful if you've ever been told conflicting things about whether you're warm or cool. Your photo is only ever used to analyse your colouring.

What if my quiz result differs from my AI Photo Analysis?

That's okay. The questions are a preliminary test, so sometimes your quiz score and your photo result won't match exactly. When they differ, we recommend trusting the AI Photo Analysis as the stronger indicator.

Is Hueme as good as an in-person colour analysis?

For finding your season and getting a palette you can shop with, Hueme does the job beautifully, in minutes, for a fraction of the price. A great in-person session adds things a screen can't, like colour and makeup coaching and live draping under controlled lighting. We're not here to replace skilled analysts. We're here to make colour confidence accessible to everyone, and to give the professionals a better digital toolkit. That's the thinking behind HUEME Pro.

Powered by Hueme, led by you. Discover HUEME Pro →

I'm a colour analyst, why would I use an AI tool?

HUEME Pro isn't here to replace your trained eye; it's here to handle the admin and add polish, digital drapes you can show on screen, the full 12-season library always to hand, in-store matching for shopping trips, and branded reports your clients keep. You bring the expertise; we bring the toolkit. See HUEME Pro →

Can I run client sessions with Hueme?

Yes. HUEME Pro is built to run a colour session end to end, from sending an intake form before, to digital draping during, to a branded report and feedback after, all from your phone or laptop. HUEME Connect keeps every client's records in one place. Explore HUEME Pro →

Can I use Hueme commercially?

Commercial use of HUEME Swatch and the professional tools is included in HUEME Pro, which is designed specifically for analysts and stylists working with paying clients. See HUEME Pro →

Trust & practical questions

Is my photo safe?

Yes. Your photo is used to analyse your natural colouring and to generate AI try-on images, and nothing else.

On the consumer side, the original photo you upload is deleted from our servers as soon as the analysis or try-on completes. Only the generated try-on image is kept against your account so you can view it again, and you can delete it at any time. We never sell your photos, never use them for advertising, and never share them with third parties beyond the AI provider strictly needed to render the result.

HUEME Pro analysts can save client photos and files to their own client records, but only with the client's explicit consent and under our Pro data-processing terms. Read our Privacy Notice →

Do I need to download an app?

No. Hueme runs in your browser, so it works on any phone, tablet or laptop, just go to hueme.ai. If you'd like it to feel more like an app, you can also add it to your phone's home screen.

What if I'm between two seasons?

This is completely normal and happens to lots of people, even with professional analysts. Start by adding a photo to your quiz for our AI to fine-tune the result. With HUEME Glow you can explore both palettes side by side and see which shades genuinely make you glow. And if you'd like a human eye, a HUEME Pro analyst can help. Explore Glow →
